Privacy Policy
We built Bread & Word to be a quiet, trustworthy place. We collect as little as we can, and we never sell your information.
Who we are
Bread & Word ("we," "us," "the app") is a faith community app for daily Scripture and devotionals, a prayer wall, Bible reading, live audio rooms, and fellowship. This policy explains what we collect and why. If you have questions, email hello@breadandword.com.
The information we collect
You can use the app anonymously
You can start using Bread & Word as a guest without giving us your name or email. In that mode we create an anonymous account identifier so your reading progress and preferences work, but we hold no personal identity for you.
Account information
If you choose to become a member, we collect what your sign-in method gives us:
- Email sign-in: your email address.
- Sign in with Apple: your name and the email (or Apple private relay email) you choose to share.
Profile and content
- A display name or pseudonym, an optional bio, and your anonymity preference.
- Prayers and notes you post to the prayer wall.
- Audio you record — spoken prayer responses and recordings of live audio rooms you host.
- Who you follow in Fellowship, rooms you host or join, your Bible reading progress, and your streak.
Device and technical data
To deliver "your daily bread is ready" and other notices, we store a push notification token. We also process basic technical data needed to run the app reliably and securely.
Donations
If you give a donation, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
How we use your information
- To provide the app — your account, prayers, rooms, reading progress, and fellowship.
- To generate devotional reflections through a faith-tuned AI provider (Gloo).
- To deliver daily reminders and notifications you've allowed.
- To keep the community safe and enforce our Terms.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your prayers or recordings for advertising.
Service providers we share with
We use a small number of trusted providers strictly to operate the app. Your data is shared with them only as needed to deliver the feature:
- Google Firebase — accounts, database, file storage, and push notifications.
- Agora — real-time audio for live rooms.
- foldr.space — storage of room and prayer audio recordings.
- YouVersion Platform — Bible text, versions, and reading plans.
- Gloo AI — faith-tuned generation of devotional reflections.
- Stripe — donation payments.
What others can see
Prayers you post and rooms you host are visible to the community. If you set your profile to anonymous, your prayers appear under a pseudonym rather than your name. You can change this at any time in Settings.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account at any time from Settings — this removes your account and associated profile data.
- Stay anonymous by toggling anonymity in Settings.
- Turn off notifications in the app or your device settings.
- Request access or deletion of your data by emailing hello@breadandword.com.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your account and profile data; some content may be removed promptly and some on a routine schedule. Backups and legal records may persist for a limited period.
Children
Bread & Word is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app grows. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
